The ELCO Online Synchronous Learning is a virtual remote option for ELCO students in grades Kindergarten through 12th who wish to remain at home for instruction while maintaining the structure of a school day. Instruction is synchronous so that lessons and activities are completed in real time through interaction with the teacher and classmates.  Students may choose to participate in ELCO extra-curricular activities throughout the school year.

  • What does synchronous instruction mean?

    Posted by:

Synchronous instruction means that students receive live lessons from teachers during the school day.  Students will video-conference into these live lessons with the teacher(s) throughout the school day using Zoom. Synchronous instruction allows for interaction between the student and teacher and provides a structure similar to a traditional school day for the student.

  • Are all ELCO courses available for Online Synchronous Learning?

    Posted by:

Since this option provides live instruction by ELCO teachers from ELCO classrooms, the majority of courses K-12 are available.  However, certain hands-on courses will not be offered in this learning option if the course objectives cannot be fulfilled in an online format.  Therefore, if a student has one of those courses in his/her schedule, the student’s schedule will be adjusted.

  • May my child try Online Synchronous Learning for a short period of time?

    Posted by:

Due to the nature of this option, it is quite easy for students to transition between Online Synchronous Learning and in-person instruction. However, in order to maintain consistency and continuity for students and teachers, we will require a commitment of at least one marking period if choosing this option. At the end of the quarter you may choose to transition your child into in-person/hybrid learning or to remain in ELCO Online Synchronous Learning for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.

There will be a two-week drop/add period at the start of the school year during which you may choose to move your child to the In-Person/Hybrid option.  After the first two weeks, no changes will be made until the next marking period.
