Federal Programs
Federal Programs from the United States Department of Education provide funding to public school districts to support students in meeting the state academic standards. The Eastern Lebanon County School District applies annually to receive Federal Programs Grant funding in the following areas:
- Title I, Part A - Improving Basic Programs
- Title II Part A - Supporting Effective Instruction
- Title IV Part A - Student Support and Academic Enrichment
ELCO School District uses Title I and IV funds to support reading interventions in K-5 schools. Funds are distributed to the district based on the level of poverty in the district. Although the funding is based on poverty, the students are identified to be part of a Title I program through the results of assessments and NOT based on family income levels. All students participate in benchmark assessments three times each year to determine which students need additional support in meeting the standards in reading. Interventions are provided for students based on a tiered system of support that includes interventions taught by the classroom teacher (Tier II) or a reading interventionist (Tier III). Research-based interventions are used to provide systematic instruction and progress is monitored toward mastery. Reading interventions include, but are not limited to, Fundations and Really Great Reading. Both of these interventions are aligned with the Science of Reading which supports the instruction that occurs in the core reading program in language comprehension and word recognition.
Title II funds are used to provide research-based strategies that support effective classroom instruction. These funds are used to reduce class sizes in the primary grade levels K-3.
Parent and Family Engagement is strongly encouraged within our schools. Annual meetings are held to discuss the District's use of funds and to solicit input from families.
