What is PBIS?
We are a Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) School. PBIS is a proactive approach to schoolwide discipline. It focuses on creating and sustaining an environment for achieving important social and learning outcomes while preventing problem behaviors through a collaborative team approach.
What does PBIS do?
The PBIS team analyzes discipline related behavioral patterns and responds to them by teaching the positive behaviors expected by our students.
PBIS PRIDE
The keyword at ELCO Middle School is PRIDE. This word embodies all of these concepts by having the students, teachers, and parents to reflect on the importance of the word PRIDE.
Each letter represents a specific character trait that we want students to maintain.
Ultimately every student is responsible for his/her choices and it is up to every student to make a difference!

Behavior Expectations
As a school, we have created behavior expectations for specific areas in the building. These areas include classrooms, hallways and stairwells, the cafeteria, bathrooms, and school wide events.
As a school, we review these expectations in a positive way for our students to be involved in our school community.
Positive Behavior Incentives
Positive behavior is reinforced throughout the school through the 1-1-1 Challenge, individual incentives, the PRIDE 200 Club and PLINKO.
1-1-1 Challenge -
New to the Middle School this year is the 1-1-1 Challenge. Quarterly events (4 times a year) will be held for all students that meet the 1-1-1 Challenge. Students will attend the event/opportunity as long as they do not exceed (for that marking period):
- One Major Form
- One Unexcused Absence
- One Tardy to School
Events may include Ice Cream Sundaes at lunch, special assemblies or movies.
Individual incentives are received when students are rewarded a gold ticket for exhibiting above and beyond positive behavior.
With a Golden Ticket, a student joins the PRIDE 200 Club and earn the exciting opportunity to play PLINKO and earn other rewards.
