Students determine which values and character traits are most important

to them, and they learn that behaving in accordance with these ideals

helps build self-esteem. Through various activities, students practice

setting goals, making decisions, and establishing priorities &endash; all based

on their values.

Through a series of exercises, students identify and evaluate role

models, values, personal strengths, affirmations, and goals. Towards

the end of the module, they incorporate this information into personal

mission statements. Another learning activity makes students aware of

how they spend their time. With this realization, combined with their

values and goals, students can determine how to spend their time most

effectively.

The module offers recommendations for being organized and managing

time, and illustrates the impact these achievements have on

self-esteem. Students also learn techniques for relieving stress,

controlling responses to negative emotions, and transforming

unreasonable beliefs (e.g., "You should do that for me") into a rational,

positive outlook (e.g., "I wish you would do that, but I understand your

decision not to").
