Module Description:
Through this module, students examine various types of families,
including blended and adoptive families, and tribes in which entire
communities contribute to children's care and development. Students
discover the historical and sociological factors that have resulted in
various family structures, the resulting changes to individuals' roles and
expectations, and diverse family values in cultures throughout the
world.
Students explore the challenges faced by different types of families,
including those that include interethnic marriages, as well as unique
strengths that can be realized in various family structures. The module
also presents how family problems can be handled and organizations
that help families solve their troubles.
By using computer software and interviewing relatives, students
discover their lineage. They illustrate their findings through family trees,
scrapbooks, and stories about their family history.
