LINE PRODUCTION PROJECT

Introduction | The Task|Resources|The Process| Learning Advice| Conclusion

Introduction

Student  enterprise is the most exciting part of the manufacturing enterprise.  This  is where all the previous skills and knowledge are brought together in the student enterprise.  Students will get the chance to apply the skills of material processing  and company management.  All students will have a job in the total production processes.  They will realize that without total effort  the enterprise system will not accomplish its goals.

The Task

The students will produce a quality line product through the use of line production techniques and maximum student effort.

Resources

The Process

Before we can begin our line production we must establish our company and hire employees.  All prospective employees must fill out a standard job application and submit it to the teacher.   Applications will be reviewed and each student will be hired according to their experience.  Once each position is filled we will begin the process of establishing our production line.

Criteria for Line Project

    1.  Interest Level of Students
    2.  Ability Level of the Students
    3.  Capacity to Run Line (shop equipment)
    4.  Marketibility of Project
    5.  Social Acceptibility of Product
    6.  Design by Class
    7.  Cost (materials)
    8.  Line Assembly (time,  study,  proto-type)
    9.  Material Flow
    10.  Jigs and Fixtures  (problem solving)
    11.  Packaging Adaptability
    12.  Quick-dry Finish

Activity 1:  Complete a job application (provided by the instructor)
Activity 2:  Produce the product
Activity 3:  Now that you have been through aa line production process, word process a one page report on your job responsibilities and how it impacted  the entire manufacturing process.

Learning Advice

Students apply for each of the jobs listed above using a standard job application.  All students will follow safety procedures and operations of all machines that have been discussed in previous  class periods.  All problems that arise both with personnel and technically must follow the chain of command (flow chart) given above.

Evaluation

    20 pts.  Job Application
40 pts.  Line Set-up   (making of the production line)
40 pts.  Job Completion ( did they work toward the completion of product within the framework of our company)
50 pts.  Product Completion (finished product)
50 pts.  Written paper on job responsibilities and duties

Conclusion

At the beginning of this activity you were introduced to line production and manufacturing formats.  On a smaller scale were we, as a class, successful in the duplication of this process?  What have you learned about the flow chart  and chain of command and your job responsibilities?  Manufacturing is that area which changes ideas into products.  These products are  sold at the market,  hopefully at a profit.
