Tools and Their Functions
Pen, Shape and Select Tools

You can perform actions similar to those of the pen tool by using the shape tools. You can access them by clicking the shape tool icon (next to the pen tool on the toolbar,) or you can switch directly to a shape by clicking one on the pen tool's options bar.

The shape tools have the same capabilities as the pen tool as far as drawing methods go: Shape Layer and Paths. The shape tools also have a third option, Fill Pixels, which will draw the shape on whatever layer you currently have selected, making it immediately modifiable.

Select Fill Pixels and draw a rounded rectangle. As mentioned before, you can hold down the Shift key to keep the shape in proportion as you draw it. Also note that by clicking the blue button with the downwards arrow on the menubar, you can specify additional constraints for the shape, such as a fixed width/height. The types of constraints offered are unique to each different shape.

Other than that, the functions of the shape tools generally remain the same as those of the pen tool. This concludes the pen and shape tool section of the tutorial.
