Getting Started
Your Workspace

At the top of your screen is the menu bar, as well as the options bar. The menu bar is, of course, how you access all of Photoshop's various menus. The options bar contains many variables and settings that can be adjusted to affect the functions or effects of different tools.

The final piece of the interface is the toolbar. Using these tools, you can do just about anything imaginable to any image you'd like. Each tool has been given its own detailed tutorial, displayed in Chapter 2, "Tools and Their Functions."

If at any time you accidentally close anything in the interface, you can re-open it under the Window menu on the top menu bar.

Now that you've seen the location of all of the pieces of the interface, it's time to learn a bit of information about layers. The concept of layered images is an important one to grasp. In addition, many tools have special features that require an understanding and use of layers. Click "continue" in the lower right corner to proceed.
