Money and Trade

The Money and Trade of the American Cowboys has not changed much since the early western times.  However, it’s not exactly what people see
in the movies when cowboys kill and steal.  Today, like in the past, cowboys develop off of livestock. Many cowboys were known for their superior cattle.  This came from the hard work and sweat that came with it.  When a cowboy would go to market to sell, they would often price
their cattle double or triple that of what farmers would produce because of superiority.

Much of a cowboy’s time is behind the whip or on the saddle.  Cowboys select only the toughest cattle when they first set out.  From there, the cowboys do what is known as “free grazing” that is moving from place to place so that the livestock will have the freshest food to eat.  This is a
very superior idea, however, there are also those that oppose the idea.  Some people view free grazing as trespassing on other people’s lands.

There is a very close network between the cowboys.  The profit from one cowboy to another may very but there is great friendship that provides support.  This does not mean however that is it financial, rather, it may be in goods, or other physical items.  Trade was not uncommon between
the western frontiers, many because there were so few of them that each felt obligated to help another. Cowboys often traded food; water, supplies and stories when one encountered another.  Thus this developed the great stories of the Wild West, producing such cowboys as Wild Bill.  It was not uncommon that a cowboy would also give tips.  This could be in the forms of recipes or ideas to make the perfect shelter at night (during the early ages).
