World War One was the first use of chemical weapons like poisonous gas. It was originally used by the French, but the Germans were the first ones put it into primary use. The first use by the Germans were in The second Battle of Yrpes. They use deadly chlorine gases. Poisonous gas is known as an uncivilized invention prior to World War One. The Germans poured a heavy bombardment of poison gas on the Yrpes. When the gas reached the French they had no real idea about the gas they were facing. When they saw what it did they quickly retreated from their base. The French wanted revenge on the Germans and created a gas that were placed in cylinders. In battle these gases were dangerous to the users.
The wind can shift the direction of the gas and attack the users and their allies. After that they found out that chlorine, phosgene and mustard gas were better than the gases inside the cylinders because the gas risked lives in World War One. After that they diminished its usefulness. there came a way to prevent death from poisonous gases. Many wads of cotton pads were manufactured. They were dipped in a solution of bicarbonate of soda and held over the face. Also they were dipped into urine to prevent chlorine gases. By 1918 both side had a protection and were prepared for an gas attack emergency.
