Statistics
| Since the first
detection of Chronic Wasting Disease, more and more cases have been
showing up across the country. Suprisingly though, the numbers aren't
that incredibly high. A recent study that was conducted in Nebraska
had 1,904 deer tested for CWD that were harvested in their hunting
season. Suprisingly, only two deer tested positive for CWD. That is
only about one tenth of a percent that was infected. That's about
as good as it could possibly be without being present. On the other
hand, in Wisconsin, one of the earliest cases of CWD was found in
February 2002. Unfortunately since that date, over two thousand deer
have tested positive for CWD. Even though two thousand deer seems
like a lot, take into consideration that there are hundreds of thousands
of deer and elk that are not infected and most of them probably never
will be if CWD is handled correctly and quickly. |
