Timeline

 

 

Day 1: Parties will be formed and candidates will be nominated. Parties should pick platforms to run under based on the five main issues that we will mention in class. They should also begin to decide if they wish to be a conservative, liberal or moderate party.
Day 2: Nominees for president will campaign in five classrooms (primaries). The Candidates should tell the classes their views on the issues (platform). After the candidates leave the room, the class will vote. The winner of the most votes in the primaries will be considered to be the presidential nominee from that period and will run in the(Your School Name) presidential Election.
Day 3: The party which has won the primary must now form a campaign team and pick a running mate from the remainder of the class. Presidential hopefuls should pick a running mate, which will compliment them as well as gain additional votes. A new platform will be written. The following positions should be filled. speechwriter, campaign manager, commercial writer and committees to create posters, t-shirts, buttons etc.
Day 4: Students will complete a map of the United States and the electoral vote totals for each state. Each classroom in the school will coincide with a state. By completing this sheet, the candidate and his/her committee will be able to plan their campaign strategy and figure out which classes should be targeted to get the maximum vote.

Day 5: Candidates for President will hold a debate either on TV or in the auditorium. The dabate will consist for the candidates giving their views on various campaign issues. This will be taped and then viewed at the end of the day for the entire student body to watch.

 

 

Day 6: Classes throughout the school will vote during the first two periods of the day.  Vo-Tech students will vote when they enter school. Both popular and electoral votes will count in this election with electoral votes deciding the winner. The winner will be announced at the end of school.

Day 7: The newly elected president will give an acceptance speech on the morning announcements.
