TIPS ON

GIVING A PRESENTATION

  1. Prepare note cards to guide you or give you an outline of what you want to say. DO NOT READ YOUR NOTE CARDS WORD FOR WORD. When using a presentation package DO NOT READ THE SLIDES WORD FOR WORD.
  1. You need to have an introduction.
  • -use a catchy saying, a quote, a story to "grab" your audiences attention

-let them know what you’re going to talk about

    1. You need a logical listing of facts and information. Don’t talk in a circle. Have a reason for the order of your facts. (chronological, most important to less important, etc.)
    1. You need to have a closing. Give a summary, interpretation, "what you learned", etc. DON NOT JUST SAY "I’M DONE, THAT’S IT!" We should know you’re finished.
    1. Smile, speak clearly, and at a good pace. Look at your audience. NO GUM CHEWING. Know how to pronounce all of your words. Props and visual aids usually add to your presentation. Pictures, videos, etc. should be referred to at appropriate times. Do not turn your back on the audience.
    1. Lastly, dress to impress. This will make you look important and professional. People tend to believe that you know what you’re talking about.
    1. Take a deep breath before you begin. BEST OF LUCK!!!
