How to Obtain Working Papers

WORKING PERMIT INSTRUCTIONS
The Child Labor Law regulates the employment of minors under the age of 18, in any occupation where the work is done for compensation of any kind. Each minor wishing full or part-time employment must apply for an employment certification prior to starting work. The process to receive a working permit is as follows:

    1. A parent/guardian must appear in person in the High School Guidance Office to sign the initial working permit application.
    2. A physical examination is required. The student's physician must sign the back of the working permit application.
    3. The student's employer is responsible for completing their required section on the working permit application.
    4. Return the completed application form to the High School Guidance Office. (Students are permitted to return this form themselves, without a parent present.) At this time, a working permit will be issued to the student.
*Please note: Students ages 14 and 15 years old receive a non-transferable working permit and must obtain a new permit if the student changes jobs. Students ages 16 years and older receive a transferable working permit which they retain and may use to transfer between jobs. All working permits for the district must be obtained in the High School Guidance Office.
