Traverse-wall climbing, sometimes referred to as traversing (climbing across) emphasizes movement close to the ground and generally involves more horizontal than vertical movement. Body control, precision of movement, eye-hand and eye-foot coordination, spatial awareness, and balanced weight transfers are skills and patterns promoted through climbing. In addition, cognitive skills such as planning, decision making, and problem solving are routine aspects of climbing. All students at Fort Zeller and Jackson through the elementary physical education curricula will be traverse climbing beginning in March.
