ELCO Food Service Policy for negative balance for Patrons:
- It is the responsibility of the parent to provide adequate funds to
cover their child's lunch each day. If there is a financial difficulty
in the household, free and reduced lunches are available through
the National Lunch Program. Applications are available from each
school office or from the cafeteria office throughout the school year.
- It is the responsibility of the parent to check bookbags daily for communication from the cafeteria.
- It is the responsibility of the child to inform the parent of a low lunch account and to give all communication to the parent.
- It is the responsibility of the cafeteria to inform the child verbally
when the account is low. Cafeteria will send written communication
concerning a negative account balances to the parent/guardian via the
student .
- It is the responsibility of the cafeteria not to deny a meal to a child if meals are paid on a daily basis even if the account is negative.
- When an elementary paid or reduced student has missed paying for three
lunches($-4.50) the child will be given an alternative lunch of
peanut butter/ sunflower butter jelly sandwich, fruit, carrots
and milk. The alternative lunch will be given to the student 3
times($-9.00) . If the negative lunch account has not been paid
the cafeteria will not be obligated to provide any more meals to
the student and the parent should pack a lunch from home. The child
will not be allowed to charge any breakfasts meals or extra milk
on their account.
- Middle School paid or reduced student who have two negative lunches will be given a peanut butter jelly sandwich If the lunch account has not been paid the cafeteria will not be obligated to provide a meal to the student and the parent should provide a lunch from home. The child will not be allowed to charge any additional meals or purchase extra snacks until the balance is paid.
- High School paid or reduced student are not allowed negative lunches.
Parents / guardians who are habitually delinquent in providing for their child's
lunch by not sending money or providing information for free and reduced meals.
Will be responsible to provide lunch for their student. A positive balance for
one lunch must be in the child's account, or been approved for free and reduced
lunches.

Students negative balances that are not paid at the end of the semester will result in the retention of the final report card until the delinquent funds are paid in full.
Parents who have had two checks returned for insufficent funds must pay cash for lunches.
