Mr. Bortz was nominated for the Hall of Fame for his continuous, distinguished
service to the nation. Jim graduated from Penn State University and entered the
Air Force. In Southeast Asia he distinguished himself in aerial combat. During
his twenty-two years of service, he was one of the very few dual-rated pilots in the
USAF. He held Instructor and Flight Examiner status. He was also an operational
test pilot. During his last five years he was in command of al worldwide fighter
deployments for the Department of Defense. In retirement, Mr. Bortz continues
serving the nation as a defense contractor and consultant.
